The Advisory Board has the ability to establish committees to accomplish special projects.
Currently the special projects that are ongoing are: an insurance investigation project, a battery purchase project and a Tire puchase project. All of these projects are under the auspices of Paul Ternullo.
We have assembled a team of specialists in each of these areas.
The insurance investigation project is a follow-on to asurvey that was done of our members in 2005(click here to see the results ). This survey showed that there was an extreme range of prices and coverage that our members had for their NEVs. Because of this information we decided to form the special project. Peters' team is in the process of interviewing multiple insurance brokers from multiple companies to ascertain the various plans that are available for our types of vehicles. They have provided an interim report at the membership meeting in July of 2007. They intend to have a final report sometime in the third quarter of this year.
The battery evaluation is a follow-on to a study done by Harry Maker in 2005. Harry evaluated the various batteries on the market and vendors that provide them and generated a summary report that you can see by clicking here. The new effort is to update that report ( click to see interim version) and determine the battery cost and cost of replacement from the various vendors in the Lincoln area (here is an update as of 10-29-07). Additionally the team is seeing if it is possible to set up special pricing for members of our Group
Coincidental with the battery study, Paul Ternullo and Bill Asher, both members, embarked on a study to determine the cost per mile for running the various NEVs. Using a special meter and evaluating several different vehicles they were able to generate the slides that you can see by clicking here.
It is interesting to note that our analysis for vehicles in daily use generated data the was different than the vendors use in their advertising. Although it is almost impossible to determine the actual, specific cost per mile (because of the PG&E billing rates), the kilowatts per hour measurement is a good evaluation of the energy used by our vehicles.
Paul Ternullo also has assembled a team of members to evaluate the tire situation for NEVs. He did this because a lot of our vehicles are approaching 7 years old and tires will become an issue. The team consisted of Ross Alessandro. Roy Devers, Jon Hodson, Dan Larsen, Paul Ternullo, John Tewart. Click here for a look at the report.
